This is from a colleagues former agent and addresses newcomers to the business of acting. It’s a solid reminder for veterans as well!
“We recently asked the casting community what we could constructively pass along to our clients that would be helpful and proactive to the casting process.
Here are some of the suggestions we received – ”
1. Be on time. Casting looks at being late as a sign of your work ethic. They don’t want anyone showing up late, it effects their schedule and ultimately makes their job more difficult. Being late defines your interest in the project. If you think your going to be late, call us as soon as possible and let us know. We will take care of it and it shows respect and makes you look really professional. Us too!
2. Show up ready and prepared. If we confirm you, show up. Being a no show, after we have confirmed you just makes you look bad. And believe me they call us, and they get really upset. Some casting offices are asking us to confirm by 6pm, each night. If we don’t have your confirmation, they want to replace you. So check your emails and make sure to confirm with us quickly. If there are sides, be prepared. Make sure you know the material. Being prepared shows interest and commitment.
3. Make sure to read the project notes. It’s so important. Typically it will give you an overview of how to dress, the role and a sensibility of the project.
4. Have fun with it. Most of the time, the minute you walk in the room, the ad agencies/casting/director, know right away if you are a possible choice. It’s your time in that room, make the very best of it.
